1. Acceptance of these terms

By creating a Numists account or using the site, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. If you don't agree to them, please don't use Numists.

2. What Numists is

Numists is a coin-collection catalog and peer-to-peer marketplace for collectors. It lets you record your collection, list coins for sale, and negotiate directly with other users in chat. Numists does not process real payments. Prices, offers, and "sales" on the platform are a bookkeeping/negotiation layer only — any actual exchange of money happens off-platform, entirely between the two users involved, at their own risk and by their own arrangement.

3. Accounts

You sign in with a Google account, and one Google account maps to one Numists account. You're responsible for the activity that happens under your account, and for keeping your display name and profile information accurate.

4. Your listings and content

You're solely responsible for the accuracy of what you list — descriptions, specifications, photos, condition, and any claims about a coin's authenticity, rarity, or grading. Numists provides an optional AI-assisted identification tool as a cataloging aid; it is not an authentication service, can be wrong, and cannot detect counterfeits or replicas. Never rely on it (or on another user's listing) as a substitute for your own inspection or a qualified appraisal before buying or selling anything of value.

5. Prohibited conduct

You agree not to:

• List counterfeit coins while representing them as genuine, or otherwise knowingly mislead a buyer
• List anything illegal to sell or possess
• Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
• Scrape, mass-download, or resell the coin reference catalog or other users' data
• Attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with the platform's security or normal operation

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, at our discretion, with or without notice.

6. How a transaction is expected to work

The intended flow between a buyer and a seller is:

1. The two of you agree on the price and the shipping arrangement in the chat.
2. The seller posts the item cash-on-delivery and shares the tracking number.
3. The buyer inspects the parcel at pickup and only then pays for it.
4. The postal service forwards the payment to the seller.

Numists is not a party to that transaction, does not hold funds in escrow, and does not guarantee any listing, offer, payment, or shipment. We never handle your money or your parcel. Any dispute over a purchase is between the buyer and the seller, and you are free to agree on a different arrangement between yourselves — but that too is entirely at your own risk. Deal with people you trust, and be as careful as you would in any other peer-to-peer marketplace.

7. Email & communications

Creating an account means you may receive transactional emails — for example, when someone sends you a chat message or an offer. Each of these can be turned off individually from your profile's email settings, or via the unsubscribe link included in the email itself. Promotional emails are opt-in and off by default; you will only get them if you turn that on yourself, and can turn it off again at any time.

8. Intellectual property

You keep ownership of the photos, descriptions, and other content you upload, and grant Numists the license needed to display it on the site (including on shared/public listing pages). The Numists name, logo, and site design belong to Numists.

9. Coin reference data

The catalog used to autofill a coin's specs draws on public reference data, each used under its own license: entries from Wikidata, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art are CC0 (public domain); entries from the American Numismatic Society (numismatics.org) are under the Open Database License (ODbL) and are credited as such in the site footer. This reference data describes coin types generally — it is not a claim about, or appraisal of, any specific coin a user lists.

10. Disclaimer & limitation of liability

Numists is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Numists is not liable for any loss arising from a transaction between users, from reliance on a listing or AI-assisted identification, or from use of the service generally.

11. Governing law & disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Romania, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute not resolved informally is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Romanian courts — except that if you're an EU consumer, nothing here takes away any protection you're entitled to under the mandatory consumer-protection law of your own country of residence. If you're an EU consumer, you can also refer a dispute to the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform — though as set out in section 6, Numists itself is not a party to any transaction between users, so that platform is of most use for a dispute about the service itself rather than about a specific sale.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continuing to use Numists after a change means you accept the updated terms.
